Are You a Candidate?

am I a candidate for facelift neck lift rhinoplasty eyelid surgery

One of the most common questions we hear pertains to whether or not a patient is a good candidate for a specific procedure. Although there is overlap, we’ve laid out some of the key factors in determining candidacy for three of our most common procedures: rhinoplasty, facelift surgery and eyelid surgery.

The Ideal Candidate for Rhinoplasty is Someone Who…

  • Is unhappy with the appearance of their nose or has a septum-related breathing problem
  • Is out of their teens
  • Is in general good health as well as a nonsmoker
  • Is emotionally ready for the procedure and alteration of their appearance
  • Knows what look they desire
  • Has adequate time to recover after the procedure (~10 days)
  • Has realistic expectations for rhinoplasty surgery after consulting with a facial plastic surgeon

The Ideal Candidate for Face Lift Surgery is Someone Who…

  • Is unhappy with the appearance of their face, neck or jaw definition
    • It’s common for patients to also ask for neck lift surgery with their facelift surgery
  • Is in general good health as well as a nonsmoker
  • Is usually between the ages of 40 and 80
  • Has loose skin around the face and neck yet their skin still has some elasticity
  • Has adequate time to recover after the procedure (~14 days)
  • Has realistic expectations for face lift surgery after consulting with a facial plastic surgeon

The Ideal Candidate for Eyelid Surgery is Someone Who…

  • Is unhappy with the appearance of their eyelids in proportion to the rest of the face
  • Has excess skin around the eyes, crow’s feet, dark circles or bags underneath the eyes
  • Feels that their eyes make them look significantly older than they are
  • Has no existing eye conditions or problems related to dry eyes
  • Is out of their teens, yet most candidates are usually 40+
  • Is in general good health as well as a nonsmoker
  • Has adequate time to recover after the procedure (~14 days)
  • Has realistic expectations for eyelid surgery after consulting with a facial plastic surgeon

Although these are guidelines for ideal candidates, it is important to remember that a consultation with a certified facial plastic surgeon is necessary to truly understand whether or not you are considered a candidate. Also, keep in mind that facial surgeries can often be performed in combination to achieve the best result. We hope these guidelines will help you understand if you’re on the right path.
