Microneedling with Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is one of the forefront treatments in anti-aging. Microneedling with PRF works with your body’s natural restoration process to create new cells, produce more collagen, and release growth factors. The result is naturally rejuvenated skin.

What are the benefits of microneedling with PRF?

  • Reduction of dark circles
  • Minimized lines and wrinkles
  • Volumized skin, deep folds are lifted
  • Tightened and firmer skin
  • Reduction of scarring and discoloration
  • Restoration of hair growth and thickness

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, sometimes called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure in which small punctures are made into the skin in order to stimulate the body’s rejuvenation process. These controlled micro-wounds stimulate circulation, cell and collagen production, and release growth factors.

Hyaluronic acid is applied to the skin during treatment to be absorbed deep into the skin, further optimizing the effects of the microneedling treatment. After your Microneedling treatment, we recommend hyaluronic acid serum to be applied at home for at least twenty-four hours post-treatment when skin is most open to absorption of moisture and products. To get even more benefit, we recommend the use of Platelet Rich Fibrin to be used during microneedling treatment.

What is PRF?

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a concentrate made from the plasma, platelets, white blood cells, and mesenchymal stem cells from the patient’s own blood which is used to stimulate the body’s natural healing and restoration process. The concentrate is 100% natural; the absence of synthetic materials allows a fibrin scaffolding to form from the plasma, which delivers more active and longer lasting results.

How is PRF different from PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. There are a few notable differences between PRP and PRF which make PRF the superior option for skin rejuvenation.

When collecting the concentrate for PRF, the blood is spun at a lower speed than when collected for PRP. The slower centrifugation allows for a larger majority of growth factors and cells to be harvested and used in the concentrate. The presence of these cells (platelets, white blood cells, and stem cells) bring about more healing factors.

PRF is also 100% natural, whereas PRP contains additives/anti-coagulants. With PRF, the absence of these additives allows for the fibrin scaffolding to form naturally and slowly release the growth factors into the skin. PRF releases these growth factors over a longer period of time, which allows for longer-lasting results.

What can I expect from the microneedling procedure with PRF and recovery process?

At the beginning of treatment, a standard blood sample is drawn and the sample is spun in a slow speed centrifuge to separate the red blood cells. The plasma, platelets, white blood cells and mesenchymal stem cells are then used during the microneedling process. A medical grade pen with microneedles of precise depth is used to penetrate the skin.

The procedure can cause some discomfort, for which a topical numbing cream is commonly used. Redness or inflammation may occur after the treatment which will resolve within a few days of treatment. The PRF will work with your body’s natural healing process to deliver skin benefits over the course of the next few weeks and months. Most patients receive anywhere from 4 to 8 treatments and start to see results after the second or third treatment.
